LiveStack Directory submissions open!
Tell me about your events...
Hello lovely friends!
First - a very big thank you.
Eight nights ago, to the hour, this idea was born.
I thought it was insomnia, turns out it was idea-birth. Weirdly, my last shift as a surgeon ended nine months ago today and I’ve been in ‘creative pause’ since then. Turns out ideas really are like babies… Anyway, I digress.
I was kept awake by a vision of a gathering of lots of smiling, creative people in a beautiful venue, all getting inspired together in writing workshops, author and artist talks, panels, joyful business discussions, Q&As, great food, a shop full of everyone’s incredible work and lots of time to get to know the folks who make up this gorgeous Substack community in real life.
So excited was I, that I spent an hour furiously scribbling lots of details down, and then emailed it all (at 3am) to the creative guru and Queen of Substack
. Despite the busy-ness of her royal duties, Claire replied within hours, very generously labelling my hyperfocussed audaciousness as a ‘gorgeous download’ and offering kind encouragement, so with Her Majesty’s seal of approval, I am committed, and indeed officially required to make this happen! The first step in any big project like this is to find out if there would be interest in such an event. At the same time, I thought about all the in person events that are already happening all over the place, every single day, but among all the noise and the endless zoom calls, it can be hard to know where to look to find them. And so the LiveStack Directory space is hopefully going to help with that, but I’m going to need to ask for your help, please!
Already, in this first week, just a few days after creating this little corner of the internet, 70 wonderful humans have signed up to this space. While I’d hoped there might be some appetite for face to face events, I never anticipated so much interest so soon, and I love that there is, and that you’re here SO much. I appreciate every single one of you.
For the next step to make LiveStack a useful place for you and the wider community of creatives of Substack, please will you tell me about your events?
If you are hosting any in person and/or hybrid creative events such as:
workshops
retreats
co-working clubs
book signing/launch events
anything else!
Please would you complete this Submission form
The form is a first draft, it will be revised frequently in these early weeks as I work out what is needed, so please do let me know your suggestions about the details you want to share as an event host, or to know as a potential attendee.
I will then set up version one of the Directory, and as it (hopefully) grows, the beautiful connections we experience every day on Substack should have more of a chance to flourish in real life.
Please do get in touch if you have any ideas or suggestions for the directory and/or the conference. I’ll be working on both over the coming days. You’re welcome to use the comments or message me directly.
In the meantime, here is a live event to whet your appetite. At time of writing I’m told there are just a last few places remaining - I’m going, and I cant wait. Join us?

PS - please do keep sharing LiveStack, this project can only work if as many people as possible know about it, share their events and tell their friends.
And if you’re on the fence about subscribing (it’s free!) - events can be listed for free forever for the first 100 subscribers, and the special early joiner welcome email will unlock further treats in future. Can’t wait to meet you all!

Amazing that you're doing this. I've got three in person events coming up in London and more in the pipeline.
This is such a great initiative! I’m miles away from anywhere in the north of Scotland but maybe I myself will end up offering something live and people will travel to experience the stunning beauty here. As well as the event 😃
